Been working on some things in the background over here at Boredom Pays inc. but mostly have just been absorbing as much art as I can.

I’ve been obsessing over some of Kubricks films. Like, I just watched Eyes Wide Shut last night and it completely floored me. Such a fantastic film and incredibly relevant to a lot of the things I’ve been thinking about relationships over the past few months. Plus, the way it’s shot, the dialogue, the pacing, colors acting and use of music? Holy Christ.

Also, been reading a lot of R. Crumb comics. It has taken me a long time to come around to reading a lot of his work because I find some of it pretty offensive have had a hard time getting past some of the pornographic (not because I find it offensive, just uninteresting) elements of some of his work. And… I don’t quite know how I feel about his work quite yet but I’m blown away by the total honesty and complete lack of self censorship he seems to apply to his work. It’s just… refreshing. Even when some of the things he talks about are uncomfortable to sit through. I dunno. The more I read the more I fall in love with his work. So good!

I think this comic shocked me more than anything you've ever posted. You've always been so committed to making art and putting stuff out there. I'm stunned that you don't have that same motivation right now.

I truly hope you find your muse, buddy. You're a terrific artist, passionate and honest, and, more importantly, you're a damn fine person.

I've had the opposite reaction lately. I'm super-energized and doing lots of drawing (for me); I just wish I had more time to get stuff done. Also, I've been absorbing lots of stuff about mini-comics and John Porcellino, in particular. So inspiring...

Isn't it funny how part of being an artist is sitting on your butt, not drawing or painting, but just looking at stuff? Other people's art, movies, life in general. So much of what makes an artist is simply watching the world. Weird, I just had a self revelation. Btw, Love your work!

@Matt - Hah, really? I think mostly I've just become bored with what I've been doing and I'm not sure how to break out of it. I'm sure it will pass soon enough.

What's the saying? Keep going down the rabbit hole? Hopefully you'll find something on the other end by asking questions. Till then have you watched Kubrick's Barry Lyndon yet?
